Alright, I've been through a few final decisions () but I'm hoping on picking up a 04 grand cherokee laredo (WJ)... but through all I've been reading I'm confused about something with lifting these... Obviously you can't lift a Unibody, but they have these 2" BB's... but these are incorperated with the suspension.
so Like, if I got a 2" BB, and then a 4.5" suspension lift... would I get 6.5" of lift? i mean, i probably wouldn't want that much, but is that possible?

 

That would be a scary ride on a short arm setup...I would just go with long arm kit if you want that much lift. It will be a much smoother ride on and off road.

 

yes to answer your math question a 2in bb lift and a 4.5 inch lift would add up to 6.5 inchs. but i totally agree, you would be much better off buying a complete long arm kit from a respectable company. i know u said u probably wouldn't go that high, im just basing my answer around your example.

 

I would just stay with the 4.5 inch lift. I you will be just fine with that.

 

yeah, i figured id need a long arm kit.. but i didnt know if like, maybe the BB's were a part of a suspension lift, and you'd just get spacers instead of all the things needed or something... idk. ha.

BUT! ok, all these lifts are rated for 31" tires, I don't really wanna do TOOOOO much trimming, none preferably... but how much lift would I need to fit 33's under there?
(granted these kits are rated for all kinds of offroading, if i wasn't doing any rock climbing and such, would I still need a super amount of lift, if it wasnt going that far into the wheel well when wheeling? Because this will still be my daily driver until I graduate and get a REAL job)
BASICALLY: how much would I need to lift, to fit 33's under there while driving on moderately flat surfaces? and how bad would it be when i wasn't on a flat surface?

 

I agree with gully369. I advise folks on these issues all day every day and wish they had the sense to take the gully369's advice. A wj is tricky but its an awesome platform. It's already got a high steer knuckle, big TPC front brakes for big tires and a nifty 3 link in the rear that you can do a lot with. I would look into a long arm kit from a reliable company. I don't build anything for WJs or I would know my competition in that area a little better. However, The bigger tires will wear worse, run less out of true sooner and have a meaner wobble when they do. Therefore the long arm set up will keep your caster deflection much less than a short arm, allow for more useful adjustment and has less parts to wear out. Not to mention they are just higher on the cool factor. I would def do at least 6" of lift.
