If your worried about spending money on it and it crapping out on you I recommend getting your self a nice spacer kit. 2-2.5" spacers and a new set of shocks. Shouldn't set you back much depending on what shocks you go with. If you look around on the forums in the for sale areas you can find deals on used stuff. I lifted my ZJ ~4" for less than $300.

Its got 235 75r 15s on it now...i was told by a dealership that was the biggest that would fit without rubbing....is a 31 alot taller? also with spring swapping, spacer blocks, or even a feel lift kit aside...how labor intensive is a body lift and how big is ok to go...my jp magazine says no more than an inch or u start early wear n tear on the body from extra body rolln what not....ideas?

The 235/75-15 is a 28.9" tall tire. You can fit a 30" (255/75-15) tall tire with minor rubbing at full steering lock and no trimming.

If you wanna run 31s get yourself a 2-2.5" Budget Boost (spacer kit). No fender trimming required. You can run 35s at 4.5-5" of lift and fender trimming.
I am at almost 4" of lift and can run my 34" LTBs and all I had to do was trim my front bumper and pound back the pinchseam in the front fenderwell.
I would say do the front to rear swap. Take your front coils and put them in the rear netting you ~3.5" of lift. Then buy new front 3.5" lift coils. Here is a kit with the basics you will need.

They have another 3.5" kit that also includes an adjustable front trac bar. It is about $100 more but well worth it.
I got IRO's double sheer conversion adjustable front trac bar after I lifted my ZJ as my stock trac bar was toast. That in itself was high quality and heavy duty!

I hear ya on the mileage part. I guess I'm lucky to have the 318 in my ZJ. Even being lifted almost 4" I can still pull upwards of 25mpg (winter grade gas has brought me to a steady 19mpg). I am still running stock size tires. I don't expect much of a difference though going to a ~31" tire. I run 91-93 octane gas do to the mods and tuning I have done to my 318.

pretty cheep that way
