Default Learning a 44RE Tranny

Hey guys thanks for the help that you guys gave me with my last post.
A short history:
97 GC limited 177,000 miles. Traded for it knowing that it had a tranny problem. Found out that the immediate problem was cause by a leaky cooler line and tranny had almost no fluid in it. Filled with fluid got tranny operational. And replaced Governor sensor and transducer.

The New problem.
In D on the selector transmission has a 1-2 flare. In all positions except for P and N the trans produces a noise at while sitting still at idle. Noise is kinda hard to describe best way to describe it would be kinda like wet sandpaper on metal but metallic sounding. Transmission shifts wonderfully if you **** if manually from 1 to D while driving no flaring.
When i pulled the pan off i did have a noticeable amount of aluminum colored metal right in the center of the pan. Magnet had regular black material collected on it.

I'm curious on what this could be. I get my rocks off by trying to do everything myself so i am not wanting to take it and have it fixed. It would be really helpful if you guys could share ur insight with me on what u think might be going on. I am planning to do a rebuild on it soon but i would like to try and have everything i need before i do. Some things do not come in rebuild kits. So just trying to look ahead. Again thanks for anything you guys have to offer.

If it shifts fine manually but not when left in Drive, it could be a problem with the Transmission Control Module. JMO

Edit: '96 and later models don't use a separate TCM. Trans functions are controlled by the PCM (according to the manual).

Would there be any way for me to check it or would i just have to go and get one and put it in. And i guess i should say that it only shifts ok if i upshift after it would have normally upshifted in D.
Also and i forgot to include this sorry. It will shift ok on occasion in D if i accelerate harder than normal but this does not happen all the time. Sometimes i will get a 1-2-1-2 real quick under hard acceleration.

I don't know how or if you can check the Transmission Control Module. Maybe some of the trans gurus on here will chime in with some better advice/help.

I looked it up and the '96 and later models don't have a separate TCM. The trans functions are controlled by the Powertrain Control Module. Sorry for any misinformation I posted earlier.
