Default keep or get rid of the jeep? any opinions

Hello everyone I have a jeep and friends keep telling me i should get rid of it and get something more reliable. First off I love my jeep not as much as my last one but i like it and i've put a lot of money into it, its not being driven as much as it should due to access to a kia soul and some issues

but I am just not willing to get rid of it, yes it has some work to be done yet but what aging vehicle don't have its issues to fix.

with that said a mechanic looked at it recently and said the engine sounded real good better than most newer vehicles he looks at and the trans mission don't slip and shifts good.

basic jeep info:
grand cherokee limited 1996
4.0 l i6 engine
automatic trans
2 wd

below is whats still needed and whats all been replaced

work still needed

headlights coming on by themselves issue
ac compressor replacement or clutch rebuild (compressor works but clutch going out)
door lock and windows issues, bad control or wiring issue don't know
short in overhead console kills dash fixed by just moving it but needs to be fixed sooner or later
water seal on door
key fob programing
light bulbs replaced, parking light, license etc
could use a paint job
maybe some window motors not working or could be the issue from above
washer nozzles

very little keeping it from being driven in fact i will be ditching the kia tomorrow for those needing it at home and driving this to work, no problems during the day

work thats been done since i bought it

transmission filter and fluid
alternator
fuel filter
spark plug wires
rotor
distributor cap
ignition coil
cam sensor/ignition pickup sensor
shocks all around
front bearings and rotors
new pads front and back
new tires front and back
crankshaft position sensor

i know my opinion is the most practical to me but I would love others opinions especially if i am keeping it out of love and not common sense.

to me with whats all been put into it and that it runs so well (not that the issues with it not running was fixed)

i mean at the very least i should keep it and run it into the ground and recover my costs in time used saving up for something else but to me i think fixing the remaining issues as time and money permit is my best course of action. I have a good running vehicle.

I look forward to hearing from yall.

Ryan, Just look at it this way. You've already spent the time and money to fix the major issues and the motor and trans are good. Why sell it and get another vehicle that will need stuff done to it to make it as good as the one you already have? Except for the lights and windows, there are no major problems with your jeep now.

I would look into how to eliminate the auto-headlight system for starters. You may need a driver's door module for the windows or find some broken wires.

What I'm saying is don't give up on it now!

That's easy stuff! Like Dave said, you don't have any major problems. If the jeep is mechanically sound and safe to drive, I'd keep running her.

If it were mine i wouldnt even worry about the key fob, overhead console, or the paint. Deal with those later. That knocks 3 things off that list. The door seal and replacing the bulbs shouldnt take long at all so theres 5 things off the list. Maybe 6 depending on whats up with the washer nozzles. Ive already cut that list in half. The a/c clutch, not sure. Working a/c is nice but its just a luxury. It could be low on refridgerant, a vaccum leak, or the clutch air gap is out of spec. I dont know. If the clutch and pulley still spin freely (check them with the belt off), id leave it be for the time being. My top priorites would be the headlights and the windows. The locks not so much as long as they still lock with the key. The windows and locks however could be related as the wiring for both passes thru the boot between the body and door, and may have breaks in it. If youre lucky you can kill two birds with one stone. The headlight switch or the wiring i can only assume has shorted as they are obviously getting power when they shouldnt be.

Thats how i would tackle that list.

ok this makes me feel better lines up with my thoughts as well.

i took the risk when i bough the jeep. when i checked it out it sounded good. got a good price at 1200 or 1300, i heard it run and test drove it. I knew from the get go some of the work needed and I was fine with it. I bought it like on a wed taged it on a thursday and then put like 400 worth of parts into it over the very first weekend. Ran good I was happy.

everything was good until the crankshaft position sensor went. that was the start of replace then works for a few days then stops working. there was times in that period i thought about giving up on it but my love for the jeeps just wouldn't let me. but i can't take the heat outside some repairs was far in between with lots of thinking time.

each component seemed to fail in that system, replace one and the jeep would work for a day or two then the same thing. But now after replacing most of everything there its started every time i've tried for the last month or so. in fact I used it today with no issues.

but disconnecting the battery every time i am done is just a pain in the butt so the jeep is not used as much as it would be if that was not an issue.

not that i don't like the kia soul the ac is much better in it but alas the jeep is my baby.

yep emailing a list of stuff to the mechanic for work to get done, electrical bothers me (rip my 1972 duster or 1976 can't recall).
