Hello I am new here. I Just purchased 1996 Grand Cherokee Limited 3-16-15. It has 194.000 miles at a price of $1,500 for my wife. This Jeep will mainly be used for inclement weather or short trips to the store, etc. So far I have changed the plugs, oil and filters along with air filter. It's the v8, 5.2litre. The engine sound and idols great. I just ordered all new breaks and rotors online along with the parking break and kit assembly. New tires are being put on tomorrow at 8 am.
I just took it for a test drive because I greased all of the fittings and noticed an "Urching sound" coming from the rear. Almost sounds like a squeaky door but deeper in sound. Can anyone give me some clues as to what this may be?
Thanks,
Rick's

Dave 1123, When you say a Dry one are you saying that there is a grease fitting or just add grease to the joint.

Most of replacement u-joints have grease fittings, BUT there may not be enough clearance for the gun's fitting. They are cheap enough to just replace them. I would put a c-clamp on the rear one and grease it good before mounting it. Don't rely on the packing grease, it's just there to protect the joint in shipping. You can get enough clearance to grease them, but you'll need to remove the shaft to bend the joint enough to get the grease gun on it.
If they DON'T have fittings, you can pull the caps and hand pack them, but usually when they start to squeak, they're finished. The rollers inside the caps are usually rusty and starting to break up. You can buy BOTH joints for about $10, maybe $15.

Sounds good. I will take a look at that today. I can only imagine what the rear brakes are going to look like. Thanks for the insight. I appreciate that.
