Unhappy Just bought a 98, NEED HELP on NSS Neutral Safety Switch

Just bought a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (non 4x4) automatic. The Reverse lights don't work. The bulbs and fuses are good. I have not jacked it up to check out the NSS yet.

Researching parts it looks like theres 2 versions of Neutral Safety Switch? One with wires and one that looks like a nut with plug in adapter?

I'm not sure exactly which one to buy. I heard the NSS just needs a good cleaning and the reverse lights will work again. Which NSS do I buy and where is it located exactly? I couldn't find a post about the NSS types.

Thanks in advance and much appreciated for any help

I would just clean it real good., its located on pass side of tranny. Its easy to clean. I've done proly 10 or more. Silicone it up real good when you're done, it'll last a long time. Be sure to inspect springs inside, and use tons of dilectric grease.

Some people seem to have trouble with them, but I think their kinda easy to remove. I can take some pics of where mine is on the transmission tomorrow and post them for ya.

Very easy.. especially with a step by step pictured write-up like this.

I couldn't explain it any better.I had to work untill after dark so I couldn't get any pictures. But with that link you shouldn't need anything more. If its wet/muddy on the inside be sure to find the crack and seal it up or you will be right back in this situation.

That is the wrong switch for your Grand Cherokee. It's a three wire connector on the switch and it screws into the transmission on the driver side towards the rear and above the transmission pan.
