Just bought 2001 Grand Cherokee 4.7L
My brother just bought Jeep yesterday gets inspected today. It has a 4.7l V8 with AWD & 119000 miles automatic tranny $6900. 1. What are typical problems or issues?2. What kind of transfercase & transmission is typical? I will be runin Vin.# at dealer later.3. What is factory gear ratio with Auto tranny is it 3.55 gears like my XJ?Oh yea its champagne looks very clean & well kept. I'm goin up to his house this weekend & were gonna start tryin to do little mods to get best mpg possible like K&N air filter, maybe new plugs, wires & definently a good cleanin with seafoam 1st throttlebody run then puttin in tank.

My top tip is to change the oil & oil filter, unless you have proof of a change within the recommended service interval. Check the service schedule for the vehicle, and unless you have evidence to the contrary, assume they (service items) have not been conducted and take appropriate action.
Given the reliability of Jeeps – if you don’t already own an OBD scanner, buy one; it will pay for itself in no time.
I’m thinking of having my OBD scanner connected permanently, mounted a là cellular phone – giving me regular fault updates.
Oh, and don’t make the mistake I made when buying my Grand Cherokee – believing the salesman, when he said that the locking wheel nut key was with the vehicle.

I would post a link to the OBD scanner that I would buy if I didn’t already own one – but I don’t think those operating this site like links (and delete any posts containing them).
I am based in the UK, on the UK ebay webite it is item # 110486427301 – check it out and see if you can buy something similar in the US.
