Why is my 98 jeep stalling after I just replaced the ignition coil?

 

maybe its the crankshaft position sensor

or the distributor ignition pickup or the cam sensor as most call it


i replaced the crankshaft position sensor ran fine for a week

ignition coil ran great for a day or two

replaced the distribution pickup, distributor cap and rotor and new wires

been running fine for 3 weeks now

so its probably one of those if i had to guess but i am not a mechanic.

If the Jeep feels like it's just shutting off opposed to stalling out I'd be willing to bet it's the CPS. About 6 years ago this forum saved me a massive headache by telling me about that. My recommendation to you, when you go to do the job make sure you have a few extenders handy. I did it by squeezing my arm up in there and it was far from comfortable. I turned an easy job into a nightmare because I was too stubborn to just go buy a few more extenders.

 

I've been trying to avoid having to replace that but it look like that's going to be the case.

 

The easiest way to get more room is to drop the rear crossmember and lower the transmission down a little. Leave it on, just remove the 4 bolts to the frame. Clue; On my WJ the connector is on the passenger's side and the CPS is on the driver's side.

OH....and buy MOPAR! It will say you headaches in the future.
