Default install Long Arms with no lift on a YZ?

In another thread I reported the problem I have with the stock lower control arm on my 95 ZJ.... (bracket broke away from the frame). Absolutely awesome response was to lift it and add the long arms as they mount in a completely different spot with new cross members etc.

Just wondering if it is possible to install the RC long arm upgrade kit without lifting? this thing will not be wheeled in anything hairier than a messed up construction site so wondering if I can keep the springs/shocks etc. it has now but just install the long arm kit. Since the travel on the long arms will allow the shocks to compress deeply I would think the geometry would be okay to be able to do this.

Thanks all,

I've never seen (or heard of) this YZ you speak of, but i would say that no you cannot run the RC longarm kit on it at stock height.

I'd think your arms would meet the subframe to compress that far on stock height...

Stock short arms are real flexy. I can unseat a coil and walk away with it, and I'm on 3" coils with factory arms. We have the same basic front end design...

Here's an inexpensive way to do this.. aside from the longarms
Get some lift coils for the front, run your front coils in the rear for a little bit of lift. Get correct length shocks. Maybe track bar for the front, install long arms, and voila!
But stock height with long arms, you will be hitting the "frame" just driving it on the road.

LOL, - it's the front of a YJ welded to the back of a ZJ......

ZJ, ZJ, ZJ........wrote that topic up too fast.

I guess the reason I'm asking the question is, if you lifted the truck and put long arms on, would you not under full compression get to the same position with the wheels as you would if it was not lifted and fully compressed? when looking at the wheel position of trucks doing some knarly wheeling, it seems that the wheels could not be more compressed if you tried, so why aren't the arms whacking the body in these instances?

Thanks for helping a newb out guys. much appreciated.

I'm not looking at the same pics you are, but the arms can only travel so far before making contact with something.

Its not hard to go out and look where the arms would be placed.

And if your doing custom length arms you can, in all reality, mount them where ever they'll fit.

it seems to me that some long arms are also made to a specific length to reach from frame to axle with whatever lift you buy it for. therefor if you got the long arm upgrade and it calls for 4" min lift then with no lift it's going to push the axle forward. in theory if the arms were the correct length, and they didn't hit the frame as soon as the vehicle was let down off the lift then im sure they would be very close to the frame and you would have to bumpstop in order to keep the arms from making contact. but then i would assume at stock height, you would almost be constantly riding on the bumpstops.
