Default I was told i need a new ECU

My jeep is having some computer trouble and I'm looking for help. I have a check engine light on and when i scan the code it says throttle position sensor. I tried a few things and they didn't work so eventually i went to the dealership and they scanned it and all that good junk. Cutting to the chase I was told it was the ECU and that I would need a new one. The one that is currently in there is a remanufactured one from '05.

My problem is that the jeep will randomly skip from full throttle to none and back and forth kind of like a bucking thing.

Where can I get a new ECU and from what year's can I use.

I have a '97 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

Did you replace the throttle pos sensor? And autozone from what I was told remanufators then for like 250 if I can remember.... it just comes back and forth with the engine light?

It also sounds like you may need a crank sensor. My ZJ ran weird until I replaced the crank sensor. No codes, just ran funky.

the throttle will go full throttle and then cut out back and forth, so it kind of bucks the jeep back and forth even though i have my foot in a constant position on the throttle. Like cruising on the highway, it will cut out and then all of the sudden jerk forward, cut out then jerk forward repeatedly.

I went to the parts store for a throttle position sensor and they told me that my jeep doesn't have one so i then went to check out the computer and saw that it was reman, 2005 so im now wondering if it is a computer from a different year/model of jeep.

Find another parts store, you do in fact have a TPS no matter if you have the 4.0 or 5.2.

What voltage does the TP go to when you say it goes WOT? If it goes to reference voltage I would make sure the wiring is good before replacing the ECU. If the TP has not been replaced yet that would be the cheapest thing to replace to eliminate.
