Ok, so I think the water pump needs replaced, but I'm a newb.

  • coolant level low
  • jeep squeals like a loose belt when first starting up
I dont drive it much but its getting to that time of year that I want to every day.

Also my temp gauge doesnt work, I'm guessing thermostat?

If the coolant level is too low the temp gauge won't work, the sender is on top of the cylinder head towards the rear on the driver side, it needs coolant in order for it to work, it won't read air. There is a small hole on the snout of the water pump, it's called a wheep hole, if there is any signs of leakage there the pump must be replaced. The pump is not too hard to replace once you get the belt, fan, and power steering pump bracket out of the way. It also a good time to replace the t-stat and hoses while you're at it. A 195 degree t-stat is what is recommended for emissions and performance reasons. Do not over do it with the silicone and make sure all of the mating surfaces are clean before installing the new parts. Then just add a 50/50 mix of coolant and check for leaks.
