1. Use punctuation. It exists for a reason.
2. This is the Cherokee forum. You need the Grand Cherokee forum. They are different vehicles.

You cannot bypass the SKIM module or eliminate the security key, it has to see the security key frequency and also the proper VIN code in the PCM or it will shut the engine down after a couple seconds.

There is a 4 digit security PIN code stored in the SKIM module, take your registration and title work to your local dealer to show proof of ownership and they will provide the PIN number to you this is something you want to keep a record of in order to get new keys made as the PIN is needed to add a new key frequency.

There are some ACE hardware stores that can make new keys by duplicating the key frequency you already have if they can get an accurate reading from the old key costs quite a bit less than a dealer or automotive lock smith.

New transponder keys have their own code in them when they are made. The trick is to get the SKIM to recognize it! The 2 original keys have a special security code in addition to the normal code. If you have BOTH these keys, you can self-program up to 8 additional keys, BUT if you don't, any new keys must be programmed by a dealer or possibly a locksmith. I've been told a new key from the dealer costs around $65.

My 2000 WJ came with both keys from the original owner. One is brown and one is grey. Any aftermarket keys are black. 6 years ago, I bought an additional key from True-Value Hardware. They cut the tumblers into it and I programmed it myself. I don't remember the price.

Without being programmed, the engine will start and run on residual fuel pressure, then die. The SKIM needs the code to activate the fuel pump in run mode. It will run long enough to charge the fuel rail when you turn it on, but won't stay running.

In an extreme case, you can buy a new SKIM and new keys from a dealer. You can also get a new PCM with the security feature deleted, but I don't know where.

SKIM=Security Key Identification Module--- SKIS=Security Key Identification System
