I don't think...
...this is supposed to happen when you pull the drum off. Same thing happened on the passenger side with one of em. Doesn't appear that the rear brakes were ever replaced, because the retainers were still on the driver's side drum. I find it hard to believe that the original brakes lasted 117,000 miles....

Jeez, you got your money's worth out of those. Anything really messed up, or just a case of replacing the shoes and hardware?
