Default HVAC Problems

Hello all. I am new to the site and need some help. I have a 1995 grand cherokee. The prob is my hvac blower is always on, and the gages are blank. As soon as I turn the car on, the blower starts, and if the ignition is off, but I turn on the headlights it comes on also. I have been told two things. 1. that I need to replace my control head in the dash, and/or 2. that I need to replace my heater resistor. I know absolutely nothing about the hvac system, nor where to begin with this problem. I would really like to do this myself. Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks!

The blower motor and resistor are located under the dash on the pass. side against the firewall near the floor. The resistor is mounted right next to the blower motor.
