Default Hood louvers

So, I recently got some hood louvers to help cool the engine down. My question is which direction should I face them? Do I face the opening forwards or backwards? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

open back to have a good exit for the air thats already pushed into the bay. having the exits back there will be a good exit point for the hot air.

The '98 5.9L Grand Cherokee came stock with louvers in the hood. If you look closely, they face rearward to let air out.
Here's the louvers removed, with drip trays:

I actually have 3 of them. I have put 2 towards the front and 1 towards the back in the middle of the hood. I was thinking of putting the 2 up front facing forwards and the back 1 facing rear.

If it were mine I'd have them facing rearward to let more hot air from the radiator/fan escape.

Actually, they did let hot air escape, and had rain drip trays. So they were functional.
