Default hood lift support

I've gone through four different lift supports and one from the dealership and not one of them will hold the hood open on its own. Is it normal to have only one support and is there a fix or cure. I'm using a make shift rod to hold the hood open for now, but want it right for my daughters sake (safety).

I just put a set on today I bought on ebay. works and holds the hood up, which the previous did not. premium_products_distribution is the seller. And yeah, very easy install.

I realize the after market has these, but my point was is that none of these hold the hood up, not even the oem one from a jeep dealer. So, are the owners of 2006 Cherokee's installing two struts for the hood?

I'm not aware of the 2006, but every Jeep I've seen uses 2 on each application.

I replaced all 6 on my 2000 WJ (hood, hatch, and rear glass) with "Strongarm" units from rockauto.com and they were very easy to install and work very well.

yep, this is a mystery alright, like I said, we installed four different ones and not one will hold, and there is only one mount, on the passenger side.

Is it possible there are threaded holes in the corresponding spots on the driver's side? I remember some of the OE units had the ball mounts permanently attached to the struts, and they had a hex shape on them, to be threaded out with an open end wrench. Maybe it was removed at one time? Or the mounts were removed at one time during a body repair of some kind and not replaced?

No, nothing like that at all. Just the one mounting flange with the ball mounted to it.....top ball is on a plate between hood and hinge and the lower mount is on the fender cowl. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow, but I really need to see an '06 like mine and compare..........thought I would find that here.

I did an image search of engine bays for your year Jeep. From what I've seen, they all only seem to show one on the passenger side. Very strange indeed that you can't find one to hold it up. I'd imagine they make retrofit kits for vehicles that never had them, though I've never had to look for one. Sorry I can't help you much right now, maybe I'll google abit, see if I can come up with something.

Thanks, I appreciate all you did, its nice to see the pic verifying it has one support. I'll probably mount a second one to assist, just thought this would be a simple fix by replacing the old one with a new one.

Another example of factory cost cutting like GM and Toyota did.

It is very strange the one from the dealer didn't work. Can you give me the part number on it? It is likely they gave you the wrong one. I may be able to tell you.
