Hidden Radio Controls

Hidden Radio Controls
We have a 1996 Grand Cherokee Limited that we bought to tow behind our motorhome. It has a unique (?) to us control system for the radio. The tabs are located in the underside of the steering wheel on the right side.. We cannot determine how to turn the radio off. Anyone have this system ?
Weather is too nasty to lay on my back in the car and try to read the controls.
Of course, I can always wait for a warm, dry Spring day.
Thanks, bjh

Won;t do you any good to try and read the controls... they don't say anything. You can not shut off the radio using the steering wheel controls. You're going to have to do that right from the deck.
Should be like this:
Right hand side-
<UP> turns the volume up
<CENTER> pushes in to change from AM/FM, CD and/or cassette
<DOWN> turns the volume down
Left hand side-
<UP> Tune radio stations up through the scale/ Skip to next track on CD
<CENTER> Select radio preset stations/ Change Disc's in CD Changer
<DOWN> Tune radio stations down through the scale/ Skip to previous track on CD or start at beginning of current track playing.

Power button is below the volume ****..............

also on the 93-98's wheel controls should only be ( left )channel seek, up-down,or when using cd track change, and middle is present change only. (right) volume up-down. We have to use the stereo to change between am/fm or cd and power up or turn off.

If you mean to use the steering wheel controls on an aftermarket stereo I've heard that Crutchfields sells an adapter. I put a Sony Explode in mine (cheap) but I never checked on reusing the steering wheel controls. Heck I figured I could lean forward a little to TURN IT UP. haha

No I mean fit them to the steering wheel to use with the factory stereo. My 98 limited doesn't have the steering wheel controls. Would this be because I have cruise control?

I wouldn't think having cruise has any thing to do with it because my Laredo has cruise and stereo controls. You might be able to find a steering wheel with both and just swap it out, just don't know if all the wiring is there. I would think you might also need the dash unit,it might take a different unit.
