Help with rear hatch.
First I want to say that I did a search, but couldn't find anything. I know this has to be a common question so you can either link the post/post's discussing this or answer for me either way is ok with me.
My rear hatch shocks are broke. I was using some vice grips to hold it up, but my dumb a@# just used one. That put more pressure on one side and the thing completely came off. I did not learn my lesson and put the vice grips on the other side and the same thing happen.
So, any cheap shocks out there? Are they even called shocks? lol I dont want to use something else like vice grips, 2x4 etc... I want it to open and stay open using shocks or whatever they are called.
Thanks for your time.
BTW I have a 94 ZJ not sure how much of a difference that makes.

I will check right now. What about auto parts stores? I saw somewhere that you can get some generic brands. I cant remember where I saw that or what the name was. If I can I would like to get them this weekend and if I have to order them that wont happen, but I will check amazon.

Couple months maybe? I probably got a discount, those guys like me. $25 each isn't bad either. Advance sells nice lift struts and they are all life time warranty

get these:
$20 a piece, direct OEM replacement. i've heard of aftermarkets not fitting properly. not worth the headache IMO.

See if there is a Pull-a-part in your area and take the ones from another XJ. I'm going this week to pull a part Nashville to find ones for my 99 XJ limited. They list hatch shocks at $4.31 a piece. Pullapart.com

Thanks for all the input guys! I am going to check into all of them and then go from there. I think I will order them because the weather is nasty here and I dont feel like standing in the rain any more. I just spent 3 hrs in this s$%# watching Notre Dame's spring Game and I am done getting wet for a while!

Mine are beefier than my stock ones. I threw the old ones away today when cleaning the garage, and was working in the hatch a lot today. Definitely noticeable. With my hatch open all the way i can put a new brake rotor and my jacket on it and it stays put.

Ok I am going with these.......... kind of. I saw they had used ones and I got them for $23 for both and free 2 day shipping. It says they are new, but the packaging has been damaged. I will update you all on how it goes when they get here on Thursday. Thanks for all the advice. Cant wait to have a operating lift gate!
