Default Help electronic shift control

I just was told i need a new ELECTRONIC SHIFT CONTROL on my 07 Grand Cherokee with 3.7 V6.Dealer was crazy price. So i bought from auto parts store and installed with a video link. Problem was all the drive indicators were lit up , PNRD with circles around and would not shift out of 1st on test ride. Reset computer by , grounding out battery as advised to reset the computer and still same issue. So, i put old one back in and ok for now. I have a new one to replace suspected defect. Am i doing something wrong.do need to reset computer a different way if needed at all? thanks in advance

Yeah, I hate to say it, but when it comes to electronics, Mopar parts work the best and the first time. The problem is they get a little pricey!
