Default HELP, 99 Cherokee runs then stalls

Hello, I have a 99 Cherokee that I picked up last week on the cheap. The shop that had it was stumped on the problem and now so am I. It has a 6 inline engine. It start fine, runs for about 30 to 45 minutes then stop running, It will then not start for at least 30 to 60 minutes, once it starts it does the same thing, runs for 30 minutes or 1 hour then stalls!

Is this a common problem that can be solved? any help would be much appriciated.

thanks

wissy

Does it run hot? Have you tried running a tank of premium through it? My first guess would be the fuel filter is clogged or otherwise obstructed. When you first start it enough fuel gets through to run it for a while, but eventually the lack of fuel delivery causes your engine to stall. Also check your air filter. If both of these are in good condition, I would next check out your fuel pump for similar reasons as the fuel filter. I think it would be unlikely that your injectors are giving out and/or your spark is the problem. Remember the three components: fuel, air, spark. One of those is almost assuredly your problem.

Carry a spark plug with ya, and a Fuel pressure gauge with you if u have one. Wait till the prob happens and check for spark, and then fuel, if you have both of them, check to see i u can hear the injectors firing. Crank sensor could very well be it if theres no spark.

Sounds like a weak ignition coil. I had one act up that way; after running for a while, it would get hot, then fail; after it cooled down again (takes a while) it would run again, like nothing had happened.
Hope this helps!!!
