i bought a 318 cherokee last night and the previous owner said that the oil would stop sending to the motor, any one know anything about that?

If your asking if that is a characteristic of a 318 motor the answer is no.

 

I can only assume it needs an oil pump. Or somethings up with the distributors drive gear or pump shaft. No clue, really. Does it have an oil pressure gauge? Is it working? If not, doublecheck the oil pressure with an mechanical gauge. You dont want to drive it if its not getting oil. Is there even any oil in it? Is it low? Obvious stuff, but i have no idea what the seller did to it so i would go over everything just to be sure.
