Default Help

OK, so I was looking for the chimer on my 2000 grand Cherokee. Never found it, and I had even pulled loose the fuse block etc, two large blocks above the fuses as well. When I put it back to gather there was a 1 inch long spring on the floor. Vehicle starts fine but will not shift out of park. Where does the spring go??? and apparently it does something to enable the shifter to work??

That spring is part of the transmission shifter interlock. IDK how the parts go together, but there is a solenoid that is activated to release the lock when you put your foot on the brake after the ignition is turned on. There is also a cable that won't allow you to turn the key all the way off so you can remove it if the shifter isn't in park.

Thank you for your help, it was right on the money. I didn't know that one couldn't tear that apart but now I do and problem solved. Thanks again
