Help!
Hi! I just bought a 98 grand cherokee the other day, the truck has 155k on it, minor rust on the tailgate only and a cracked windshield. My mechanic friend came with me, and examined it, and said it was in decent condition. We are going to replace the U joints, tie rods, do an oil change and a general tune up. Here's the thing. The kid I got it from had a big stereo system in it. I had no use for 2 12 inch subs and an amp. I had him remove them before I purchased it, and now it won't start. Help. Did he fry the battery or alternator with the stereo? How do I figure out where the problem is coming from?

When you say it won't start what do you mean?
Motor cranks but no start?
Motor won't crank at all, turn the key and get nothing?
Do the lights come on?
Does the horn blow?
Whenever I turn the key and get nothing, I hit the horn ... kind of lets me know it the battery has juice or not.

Check the battery cables. Chances are he disconnected the battery and didn't reconnect it properly. The positive (+) terminal is smaller in diameter and the clamp tends to stretch out so it won't tighten well. If there is no gap between the halves at the bolt, that's your problem.
