hatch-not going up smooth

hatch-not going up smooth
Just bought a '04 Overland, love it..
Sold Jeeps ten years, never worked on them more then basics, oil change, etc..
Anyhow, looks like original struts on the hatch, it does not go up smoothly, sorta opens then just not smooth when opening..think new struts would help??
