The rubber will either get oil soaked or rot away and allow the outer ring to slip.

Thank u for the reply, and sorry for the delay on my reply ijust re found my thread.
And i have heard that befor, im just confused bc the balancer is grinding/rubbing into the timing case and it has cause a oil leak infront. What would cause it to rub/sink in/grind against timming case?

Age and the serpintine belt would cause the outer ring to walk back and rub the timing cover.

Ok great. I was so worried it would be worse... I was worried about the crank shaft or something bc somebody had said it could be a reason. Could it be? And how likely?

that XJ with the external cage and all trimmed in flatblack on gold(? beige ) looks freaking awesome; that's one to drive by the apocalypse and take snapshots for your 'last surviving humans thanks to a bad-*** XJ & bottled water ' picture album!
might I ask what kind , is self done / how much if shop painted ? it is schweet ~!

Thank you for the admiring of my jeep jeffery. Its not street legal is the bad thing the wheels an tires are of backhoe and the frony chunk is welded. These were done to it when i became owner. A friend of mine built the jeep ive done a few small things. The paint is all rattle can, beige and brown, beige for base and a few piece of ripped carboard held few inches away and sprayed brown for the pattern. Not a whole lotta money spent for paint not for an off-roadie next move is either a tent fitted for ontop of jeep with folding gate over hood thank goodness for ladders on rear, or fitted tent for hatch gate undecided. Id like to make pages for off road magazine who knows

well I'll be ; those are backhoe wheels ! all that much cooler---I think ya need to market it for hunters and fishermen to get 'er done ....and , I don't think anyone could physically STOP you from street driving in it 'cause it'd strike the fear of God in them of you aimed it at whatever they were driving....utilitarian is where it's at, buddy. keep Jeepin' !

What did you do to get the wheels to fit? Did you use an adapter, or is the lug pattern the same?

No the wheels are off the backhoe also.a steel plate weld in the center with holes drilled for the lug patten did the trick. I'm looking to get rid of them bc they aren't street legal and I don't have a car trailer to pull it

@camie31
' welded plates w/ lug pattern drilled to match' = awesome! is there no end to your creative engineering? I think you would probably be capable of taking the side from a discarded storage shed, some re-bar and a golfcart and making a trailer based on the ingenuity you've displayed here on the fabrications for your XJ! lol...

I'm actually going to weld steel hinges on the top rack (front side of jeep) and use a still mesh like trailors have (that you pull behind) and mod it to fit evenly over rack for a lid, and when I go camping Ill be able to flip it 180° and ill have legs hinge welded on the grill part of exo to flip up and hold the mesh lid up and use it as a bottom and put tent ontop of XJ and I'll have my side ladders to climb up there.

Seen it in. 4x4 mag. I wish I would have came up with the idea that's awesome. But atleast i have the abilityand know how to make it happen. Once again thank you for the compliments Jeff.
