what the heck is a transducer?

coworker's jeep is throwing a code for a transducer...at least that's what the mechanic says. I've never heard of one. any ideas? what does it do?

got me, a transducer can be anything, really. all it does is transforms power or energy from one type to another.
like a temp sensor, it takes the force of the heat/temperature and transforms it to a gauge so we can read it.

otherwise, it could be the coil, cam sensor, computer....

it's probably something real simple, so he can get away with charging you for something expensive.

hell if I know, the jeep was given to the guy I work with by his girlfriend's father, who had his mechanic look at it. the father emailed the guy I work with about it but doesn't know his head from a hole in the ground, so he definitely didn't give full info, or accurate info.

I'm looking on it on saturday, so I'll get the codes off of it then...was just looking for some insight.
