grand cherokee d35 question
i'm assuming that all dana 35's are the same, but i'll ask this anyway. i have a '99 grand cherokee with the pinion bearing making some noise and i was wondering if i could buy the bearing rebuild kit for the d35 for a wrangler? i figured the axle internals are exactly the same, just the external brackets are different. thanks.
No - they are different. The Wrangler has a Dana35C, and the C stands for Custom. Where as the ZJ has a regular Dana35 that is different. You should be able to go to a NAPA and pick up the correct bearing.
No not all D35's are c-clips. The"C" on TJ D35's stands for "Custom" and just happens to be a C-clip axle. Dana built the axle housings custom for Chrysler and when Chrysler got them, the but in thier own custom gear sets and carriers.
All bearings wear out
If you end up getting a junkyard axle, it'd be wise to do a master install, which would replace the bearing in question anyway.
If you plan on upping the tire size, go for a D44 if you can find one cheap enough, if not, fix what ya got.
