I purchases 4 General Grabber AT2's two years ago and they were tenacious in the snow and blacktop, giving great traction on any surface, however even though they are rated as an all-season tire, their wear rate is not very good after running them all year. I got about 30,000 miles and they're down to 1/8 (or as the tire shop says 4/32). At this tread depth, they are little better than "slicks" in the rain.

I'm trying a set of BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain A/Ts now and will let you know how they perform. I've had good luck with BFGs in the past on my Camaro, giving a good mix of wear and traction. They are warranted for 50,000 miles.

I use tires for traction in the snow mostly. Because of my newspaper route, I do a lot of low speed maneuvering and U-turns which scrub off rubber more than normal driving. I also work the power steering hard and have changed the fluid twice in these 2 years.

I was debating getting the Generals, now I'm leaning more towards BF Goodrich KM2's. My XJ is just a toy, so 35's & a good self cleaning tire is for me.

Tire wear & non aggressive tread on the generals are what is pushing me to the KM2.

In my younger days I did quite a bit of drag racing in the stock classes. If you wanted traction with street tires, Firestone were great but wore out quickly. Goodyear wore well, but you sacrificed traction. A good compromise was BFG. Of course, once I got into slicks, Mohawk Tire made recapped cheater slicks on Firestone carcasses that were guaranteed against cap separation and were cheap. I even added sipes that made them bite even better. These were razor cuts across the tread. Every little bit helps, you know.

If you're running 15's, they probably would be cheaper then my 16's. Mine were $149 each. 245/70R16.

That's odd Dave. I have 245/70/17 Grabber A/T 2s on my Wj. I am at 35,000 miles with close to half tread or more. They are rated a 60,000 mile tire if I remember right. I wonder if your route is the cause for the shorter life? Like you I find them awesome in the snow.

I'm sure it is. As I said, I do a lot of u-turns and K-turns which scrub the tread and lots of low speed maneuvering at mailboxes, so I'm not surprised they wore sooner that expected. I've since talked to other "newsboys" and found this is not unexpected. Some of them buy used or junkyard tires because if this. This is my only vehicle so I want to keep it safe for my everyday use.

Newspaper delivery is very hard on vehicles. One guy started a route with a Mercedes sedan. He lasted 2 days before he bought an older Subaru Legacy. The hardest part for me is driving around at -20* F with the window open.
