Your transmission has morning sickness. The piston and acuator seals are hard when they are cold and don't seal because they are not as pliable as they are warm. Time for a reseal very soon.

Make sure you're checking the trans fluid in NEUTRAL, not Park. It makes a difference. It may show full in park, but not in neutral. Also, once it's started, shift to neutral for about 30 seconds to allow the fluid to circulate before shifting into drive. It will help save what's left of your trans.

He's talking about the ring seals on the clutch pistons inside the transmission which requires a total rebuild, including new clutch plates, seals, and any hard parts that are worn. You CAN just replace the seal rings, but why not do it all while it's apart? Prices vary by shop. Some just install a rebuilt one, others rebuild yours.
