I have a 2001 Grand Cherokee Limited with the 4.0 engine. I removed the trailer towing pigtail and put a regular pigtail designed for a 2 light system because I didn't know not to do this. The instant I did this I blew the parking lamp fuses and brake light fuses.

I replaced the parking light fuse with no problem. As soon as I put a 15 amp fuse in slot 23 it blows every time. I replaced the brake switch and 23 continues to blow. All other lights on the Jeep work except the brake lights.

Additionally, the shifter will not come out of park when the engine is running. However, if I turn the ignition key to the first position I can put the shifter in neutral and start the car then shift into drive. If I turn the engine on and then try to go from Park to Drive it will not move out of the park position.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

 

Most likely cannot get out of park when runnning because brake lights wont work . I remove the pigtail see what happens.

 

I removed the pigtail and still have the same problem. Very frustrating.
