Default fuel gauge not reading at all ?

my friend has a 95 grand Cherokee and his fuel pump went out so i replaced it for him, he told me before with his last fuel pump that the fuel gauge would read full but never go below half tank..

so i replaced his pump and he filled the tank and now its reading only empy, i know for sure that i put the fuel pump in properly and the fuel level bar is not bent or anything like that but i dont know why it doesnt want to read and i really dont want to drop the tank again

The float or the arm could be hung up and stuck.

Or the fuel level sender is disconnected.

okay well there is another problem.... his jeep died today i went to go look at it and it had no fuel pressure at first at the fuel rail shrader valve, then after a minute it got fuel pressure then it started ran fine..

we drove it to go play in the mud and it died again, this time it had fuel pressure the whole time... he was getting no spark, so we replaced his crank position sensor since he already had purchased it.. that made no difference no go

so i pushed the shrader valve again when he turned the key on it would prime and shoot a stream out, told him to crank it and no fuel

it was also getting no spark so he wanted to replace the coil did that and it fired right up drove it about 10 miles and it shut off again and wouldnt start

i dont know what could be the problem im lost with it right now

Might be a bad cam sensor.

Yep, that is a symptom of a failing cam sensor. They get hot after about twenty minutes and something inside breaks contact causing the engine to stall. Then after it cools down the contact is restored and the engine will start. They will usually not set a code for this issue.

That also supports the lack of fuel pressure. The ASD relay won't give the pump a signal to run if the coil sensor says there's no spark, until it cools off.

The fuel guage wire going to the tank only has about 1 or 1.5 volts in it, so connections and wire conditions are critical.

Check your wiring and see if there is any where that might be exposed wires that are shorting out. Check the wires leading to the ignition coil, since they are right next to the engine, age and temp can possibly fuse/melt the wires

yea i will do that... even when the fuel pump isnt turning on there is still spark, i can pour gas in the throttle body and it will start..

when we turn the key on i can feel the fuel pump relay click twice real fast, and it doesnt prime any fuel, but when its working normally i can feel the fuel relay click then 2 seconds click again priminig the fuel system for 2 seconds as normal... but we put a new relay in also and that didnt make any difference, we also switch relays with ac and auto shutdown and that didnt make any difference at all either..

im gonna go look at it tomorrow and see if i can find any loose grounds or any shorts or anything, but its coming down to whatever controls the fuel pump is malfunctioning
