I just purchased a 153,058 mile GC from the local auction 2 dyas ago for $1700 thinking it was a bad decision. first off the steering wheel has dangerous play in it so I got some info from this site to check underneath before adjusting gear box.

Looking around there is no front driveshaft no screws like someone took it off either because it was broke or trying to stay in 2wd. It is the quadatrac model and reading found out it could mess up the t-case so I would like to know how to go about getting the driveshaft since there are different sizes and which from a xj? also what is a xj? If the t-case is damaged how hard are they to replace? or should I just try to get back what i paid for it?

This is my first jeep and would like to use it for towing and trips with the family camping. what type of maintenance should be done to stay away from problems that can be prevented?

Thanks for any help

I am not 100% sure but I think that your t-case is OK if you can drive on rear drive shaft. I would recommend to find drive shaft in junk yard and see what happen. Check the pinion shaft for "play". Some people take front drive shaft off because of bad pinion bearings.
