My friend has a 1996 GC, it has a knocking sound while you're driving, but not while your turning. It's coming from the front and it is AWD. Any ideas on what it could be?

 

Can you tell where in the front? My 98 had been makin a lil knock I noticed at low speed turning, and found bouncing each corner its coming from the front right. Sadly my work hasnt allowed me to investigate farther. Lately though, I've noticed I hear it slightly if I brake or accel harder than usual. Not real loud, just enough for my paranoid self to hear it

 

I have a feeling it has something to do with the front drive shaft, either a cv joint or something like that. Unfortunatley its Quadra-trac so we can't put it into 2wd to see. It is for sure loud enough to notice, he was driving down the highway when it happened and at first thought he threw a rod.
