2008 Grand Cherokee WK. Before I start tearing things apart, and before I start changing out parts, I have a question to anyone who knows. What sends the signal to the WIN module that the tranny is in park? Is it the shifter, or the cable from the shifter?
I know, stupid question but here's why: I've read this and that and some point to the shift control modude. However, the 2008 doesn't have the shift control module that earlier models had. Others want to change out the WIN module or the shifter assembly.
The WIN module takes about a minute or more to decide to let go. In my experience with electronics, they might work intermittently, or not at all, but never slow. That usually indicates a corroded or sluggish mechanical part (like a cable that needs lube). Any thoughts?
I'd just as soon throw that cursed WIN module out the window and put in a regular keyed ignition.

Took a leap and ordered a replacement shift assembly. This assembly contains several electronic parts/switches -- a couple I could figure out their purpose. On my 08 GCherokee the OEM part # is 52124687AE. If you do an online search you'll find several part numbers that claim to fit, but not all do. Best to cross-fit via VIN number. I was lucky and happened to find one with that OEM #, although I think, but don't know for sure, that that OEM part was superseded by a more recent, and perhaps updated, replacement part.
OEM price in the $500 range. From LKQ about $75 bucks.
