FNG with Front End Popping
So I bought a 1998 GC Limited yesterday and of course I had to umm, "test" the quadra trac in muddy offroad situations, ahem.
On the way out of the trails I began to notice a popping sound from the front passenger side. It only seems to happen on tight turns like pulling into and backing out of parking spaces (just prior to the popping I hear a binding noise up front). It also pops when accelerating over uneven bumps (if I go over a speed bump with both tires it doesent pop, if only one tire goes over the bump and the other stays flat on the pavement it pops). The front end seems to shift during these pops.
It sounds like my 92 toyota carrola when the cv joint went out.
Guys keep telling me I dont have CV shafts but I see some axles with rubber boots that look damn similar to CV shafts extending to both front wheels. What are these?
Its slowly getting worse and I'm a poor college kid so I cant afford to throw parts at it or go to a mechanic. Any ideas on what it is

Their CV shafts... Torn boot allow mud/water to enter would be my guess.
You can swap these out for u-jointed axleshafts.. just remove the old and install the new. Might as well install new ujoints at this time.

also check the track bar and control arms, they may be loose. my ZJ was making a poping noise, turned out the ball joint end of the track bar was loose. tightened it up and the poping noise went away.
