Default few questions with 05 jeep grand cherokee

hello everyone. this is my first jeep and i bought it with 180k miles and I really hope its still solid at this stage.

its been giving me problems

1.) transmission temp warning comes on. is there anything to check for? maybe the fluids?

2.)are 05 grand cherokees automatically 4x4 / AWD? I noticed there is only a silver 4x4 LO option. so my only options are 2wd and 4x4 LO?

3.) I am trying to make the console light brighter. it is too dim to see at night. in the left handle i spin that **** and I do get the console lights brighter but the cars internal lights also go on. How do I make the console lights brighter without the cars lights turning on inside?

First of all, welcome to CF!

Check your transmission cooler for being plugged. If that's not the case, the temperature sensing thermistor in the trans may be malfunctioning.

You have normally constant 4WD and the option to use low range.

The dimming ring on the headlight switch has many positions. All the way up, the interior lights come on. One click down and they go off, but the numerical displays are bright. There are several settings going down that decrease the brightness of the dash lights, and the last click on the bottom keeps the interior lights from coming on when you open the doors.

Thank you so much for the reply!! Where exactly is the transmission cooler? You mean the liquid thing?

Also the light switch on the left of the steering wheel it only spins up. As soon as i click one up the car lights turn on.

And what do you guys think about the 05 cherokee. Are they a good reliable year?

Thanks everyone

There is a small, almost tiny switch, on the light switch. It controls the dash lights. Its easy to miss. If you got a manual with the vehicle, it describes this in it. If you didn't, I suggest you buy one. Your gonna need it. These vehicles have loads of options and "stuff". To get the most out of the options/features, it's best to have a manual to guide you. Not much is intuitive. Besides operational issues, there is important things to learn about maintenance as well. Great vehicles but and there is a lot to them. Want to learn about reliability and owners opinions? Try Edmunds.com. , and of course here. This place is a daily read for me.

cool! lets see if I can find it. ha ha! anyhow, they seem to be good solid machines. I am going to send it to a mechanic anyways and see what their opinions are.

Also, are GC good jeeps to lift and do some basic rock crawling? Maybe lift, have a solid axle? Do they sell kits? I have a V8 by the way. What do you guys tyhink about the V8?
