Fan Clutch Squeal
Hi all,
I replaced my water pump today and when I started to put the fan assembly back on I noticed fluid leaking from the clutch but it didn't seem to be too much.
After reassembly I now have a bad squeal coming from the fan area. Idlers are new within the last year and belt is good. Had no squeal before the work. My question is could the clutch be bad and squealing with the loss of fluid indicating a problem. Belt is tight.
thanks

Did you lay the fan/clutch assembly down flat while it was off? That's bad for the clutch, and could be the cause of the issue. At least that's what I've always heard. You're supposed to stand it up, the same as they are in the vehicle.
See what others say about this before you take any action though.

That's probably the silicone leaking out.

*It lists leaking clutch fluid.

My Haynes say under the mechanical fan section: "if the fan clutch is stored, position it with the radiator side facing down" mine has been stored that way for somw weeks now, i will take a look and see it its leaking ;-)
