Default exhaust tip

I put a chrome dual outlet exhaust tip on my 95 ZJ 5.2 and it made it quieter? is that normal?

Is it just an exhaust tip? Are there baffles in it?

Post a pic?

I'm assuming it's just two open tips next to each other, so here's my opinion. The dual outlets allow the flow to diffuse more with it having both paths to flow through. That also cuts down on it's speed as it exits the main pipe, essentially cutting it's velocity in half at the very end. If the two pipes were each half the size of the original single outlet pipe the sound would have been very similar to what it was.
If you had cut the pipe after the axle, and ran the pipes farther apart, closer to each corner of the vehicle, you would have heard a noticeable difference. A sort of stereo affect of the exhaust, but you'd still hear the same sound from each pipe. Not like a true split dual exhaust system.
On a modified GLH Turbo I had, I ran 2 1/2" from the wastegate under the seat to a resonator. No muffler in the system. Then split it to dual 2 1/2" pipes out the back, with 3" tips each side. That little thing sounded like a V8, even as far as the burbling lope of a cam at idle. I had to open the hood a lot to prove it was a 4 cyl.
Sorry for the long post.
