Default Engine swap

Hi, New to the forums. Have had a 1997Cherokee 4.0 for years. I have been looking at a 2003 Grand Cherokee that needs a motor (4.7) I have found one but its 2006 from a Durango. I have been reading up on this and I'm not sure of the crankshaft tone wheel (16 tooth vs 32). Bottom line will a 2006 motor work in as 2003 replacement.

Welcome to CF!

I'm no expert on this, but I think if you have the old motor for parts and sensors, there shouldn't be too many problems with this swap. I've heard of it being done before.

I'm pretty sure you'll need the torque converter drive plate from the old motor.

Buy a long block from Auto Zone it evens comes with a great warranty I bought one for my grand and it was cheaper then a junk yard motor
This way you get the exactr motor yuou need and there is no swapping parts and no guessing just change the bolt on from the original to the new long block

I've done many replacements, but after reading about the 16 and 32 teeth crankshaft tone wheel I'm a little hesitant. If I understand it correctly the wheel is attached to the crank and it is not just a quick change?
