Default Engine Stutter

I have a 04 Grand Charokee 6 banger. It starts up fine and runs great, but it will randomly jerk and stutter like it's out of gas when it feels like it for a second and then continue on like nothing happend. When it does this, the RPM and MPH gauge will drop to zero and then resume to normal. Sometimes the fuel gauge will drop to empty, then resume to correct level. Sometimes I can go weeks with no problem and some times it does it continually. I have changed filter, replaced cam and crank, and all o2 sensors, and even changed main power cord from battery because it was coroded. I'm out of solutions for this jeep puzzle.

I am in the same situation with my 2000. But only thing is my RPMs are the only thing that jumps up and down. I also replaced my Idle Air Control motor and still didnt fix my problem. I ordered a fuel filter hoping that will fix it but by the looks of it i doubt it will.

Fatboy, I had exactly the same symptoms on my 1999 GC. In the process I had replaced the CPS position sensor with one from NAPA. Took it to a mechanic who told me the one from NAPA would not work and I had to get the sensor from Jeep giving them the exact VIN number. I doubted him but did it anyway. Amazingly the problem was fixed immediately. He says that Jeep puts some "magic voodo" in the sensor and even though the one from NAPA is by all appearances identical the Jeep will not recognize it correctly. NAPA gave me a refund.
