I have a 1998 GC 4-wheel drive 6 cylinder.
Recently, my dome lights ... front/middle/rear would NOT go out. When I was driving down the road, the lights would stay on. When parked, the lights would not go out until about 5 minutes had passed. The short was traced to a tan wire with a black stripe. It goes from the plug under the dash to the rear of the vehicle. This would have been a major job replacing it. Then I noticed that this wire ALSO led to the rear wiper motor. (Maybe to prevent the wiper from working if the glass panel was raised.) I thought this motor may be shorting out, so I disconnected the plug to the rear wiper motor. VOILA....my problem was solved. The motor was a "Valeo", purchased with a limited lifetime warranty from Autozone. They replaced it with no problem. So it took a Dealer mechanic, at Colonial Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, in Hudson, MA about one hour to solve the problem. I would recommend this guy, Rick, for any electrical problems if you live in the area.
