Default driveline service

Hi,
I recently bought a 2008 Cherokee and the dealership (not where I bought it) is telling me I need to do a drive line service or the warranty could be voided. I bought the Jeep with 19k and it has just under 30K now. Since it is all wheel they are saying this service is needed every 15K and my vehicle has no history of this being done. So, does this service need to be done? and if so is it really every 15K the cost of the service is $400....Thanks for the advice

Find another dealership, those guys are using scare tactics to sell an over priced service. The only thing the driveshafts may need is to shoot some grease into the Ujoints, if there are even fittings to lube it. Your warranty will not be voided. You don't even have to do the "dealer recommended" 30k service, as long as you change the oil and filter every 7000 miles and inspect the air filter, you're ok and your warranty will be valid. Dealerships make huge proffit off of the 30,60,90k services, they charge you for 6 hours of work and it only takes about an hour and a half. The injector cleaning, transmission flushing, cooling system flushing, forced induction cleaning, all a bunch of money makers that are not needed to be done to keep the warranty valid. I was a service tech at a few Dodge stores, I know how the game is played, and sadly I was forced to play it to keep food on the table. Flatrate is a rip off for the consumer.

Thanks for the response. I've never had a car with warranty so I wasn't sure how that all worked. Scared me....400 bucks is a lot

Welcome to CF. We bought our '04 WJ new in '03, and had the extended 7/100,000 warranty. If you have the chance to add the extended warranty to yours I'd suggest you get it. It's better to get it before it's too late. It could save you greatly in the long run.
If you don't want to have it done there, you can either do it yourself, or take it somewhere else. It is a good practice to change the trans fluid & filter at least every 30,000 miles. Don't bother to flush it though. The t-case & axles diff fluids can be changed at the same time.
