Disicions, Questions and the unknown?!
Hey I'm new to the forum but have been reading post for awhile now, seem like quite the community.
Now here is my predicament, I own a 1999 Honda Prelude thats worth about $6000CAD and put it up for trade on Kijiji.ca and have been getting a ton of replies. I've always loved Jeeps and always been around them (live in thick jeep country) so I've been looking for a Jeep preferably.
Now I have got 3 Jeep offers:
1998 ZJ 5.9L, AWD
2000 WJ 4.0L
1993 XJ 4.0L, 5pd, 2dr
The ZJ and WJ are worth about $6000 but the XJ is worth about $1500 tops and I don't think I can get the difference out of him.
Now for the questions.
I want a daily drive/ weekend warrior kind of rig what would you suggest?
Is there a fuse that controls the AWD in the 5.9L?
If so could I wire up a toggle switch behind the fuse to control the AWD function?
How bad on gas would the 5.9L be? with mild lift and CAI and exhaust (mild mods)?
Thanks for any replies.

Skip the XJ if you really can't get a cash difference...
No, there is not a fuse that controls the AWD.. its a real t-case not some computer controlled bastard case. So no you can't wire up a toggle switch..
The problem with the 4.0l in the ZJ/WJ is that it just doesn't put out enough power if you start lifting, throwing on bigger tires, bumpers, etc. Adding weight to a 4.0l Grand is when you start getting problems.

Does the AWD system better the 4x4?

The 5.9L would be the one to get here, it's rare and will keep a higher resale.
You can get decent mpg from the 5.9 if you can keep your foot out of it... good luck.

my 94 with 5.9L AWD gets me about 13mpg
I'm not heavy on the pedal but thats about that... I love the AWD.. its nice,, still easy enough to play in when its slipery but with little pedal it stays nice and strait all the time.. I am glad I have the AWD now.. in the begining I figured I would hate it
I traded my integra for my JEEP

Yeah I agree. Same drive-trains as the Cyclone, but I prefer an enclosed vehicle. That thing with a built engine and big-boost...Simply remarkable. One put a heck of a hole-shot on my GLHT, after which I was surprised when I ran him down. AWD and hi-boost is awesome! I'd like one, along with a Buick GNX. Oh well. Back to reality.
