The other night my front driveshaft broke loose from the front differential. I have no idea how this happened because the straps were still bolted in, these keep the driveshaft connected. I snapped a few pictures (shown below). Will I be able to replace that neck of the differential?

It's called a yoke and it looks like the little retaining piece on the side that holds the u-joint caps in place broke off. Fairly common and you can pick up yokes fairly cheap. If it's the front you want one from a Dana 30 or 44 that uses a 1310 yoke. I weld a little extra steel on the sides of mine so that doesn't happen, again.

That yoke is no good anymore, you'll have to replace it. One of the ujoint cup retainers that is cast in is completely worn off, if you reuse that yoke, it will spit the ujoint cup right out and you will back right back to where you started from. Might want to replace that pinion seal too while you're at it.

You can replace just the yoke but mark the location of the pinion nut on the pinion and if I'm not mistaken the grand front axle uses a crush sleeve instead of shims like the XJ high pinion version, so take care not to over torque it or you will be taking it back apart. It takes roughly 250+pounds to crush the crush sleeve so even with an impact it takes a bit but take your time and you should be fine.

use a chisel and tap a small mark across the threads and edge of nut, remove nut, replace yoke&seal while your there/tighten nut tight until mark lines up,no need to over tighten(needs about 180lbs of torque,so it will be tight)
