Dana 44A Cover Gasket Part # ???
I can't believe that this is hard to find but I can't get websites, google searches, fitment guides, anything to stop showing me Dana 44 parts and start showing me Dana 44A parts. Are these that rare or something?
I got the wrong gasket and rear diff cover for my 1996 ZJ because NAPA Pro Link only lists one rear diff gasket (it's a Dana 44) for my Jeep and the manufacturer of the cover said that it would fit my truck but it definitely does not.
Can someone tell me a part number for a Dana 44A rear diff gasket please? I'm hoping I can cross-reference it with NAPA, if not i'll just get it from whoever you show me. I just can't find one.

Old fart with a wrench
IDK for sure, but the covers for the D44 and the D44a may be different. My dealer parts guy says just to use blue RTV on them all. It works fine on my D35 and D30.

As I said, my dealer parts manager, and he's a good guy, said they don't stock the gaskets for any of the diffs. Their computer (there's that word again!) says the only way to get a gasket is to buy a cover from Mopar.
Here's a trick my Dad taught me. Trace and cut a new gasket out of a brown paper grocery bag and rub it with RTV. Hang it to dry for an hour, then install it. It'll work on just about anything that uses a thin paper gasket. He even made a thermostat gasket out of a shirt cardboard.

I asked a seller on ebay about the teraflex diff cover for the 44HD and he said Its for the newer stuff (jk's and lots of wranglers) and wouldn't fit mine but I think he's wrong, does anyone know about those fitting the zj?

No a jk isnt a 44hd its a jk 44 its the biggest 44 made to date. The 44hd is the irs 44 used in corvettes and vipers that shares some parts with the 44a.On the diff cover http://www.chassisunlimited.com/stor...iff-cover.html and https://www.bluetorchfab.com/collect...erential-cover but that one is sold out not sure if they will make more or not.And a standard 44 vs a 44a http://d44tech.com/Dana_44A.html
