i have a dana 44 im rebuilding. i need to know how to remove the outer seals...thanks

 

to take the axle out you need to remove the C clip. You should see the small bolt that retain the small rod inside the diff. I think is 8MM 12 points. It has been a while. After you take the rod out then you will have access to C clip. Push the axle in to relive tension and the C clip will pop out. Then slide the axle out. You can use large screw driver, pray bar, to get the seal out.

 

i was looking at it today and it looks like the seals are not replaceable. does that sound right?

 

The seal are replaceable and should be any time( most of the time) you take axle out.
