Default crankshaft positioning sensor

1996 GC 4.0 crankshaft positioning sensor is bad.... i can see it on the bell housing but cannot reach it... i am trying to get from underneath the vehicle. Is there an easier way to change it or a different direction to attack from? any advice would be great!! thanks

ps:its an automatic if that helps

Take the front driveshaft loose from the front axle and get the gear selector cable out of the way, that will give you some much needed room. An air ratchet make it easier too, but if you don't have one you'll just have to use some long extension and a regular ratchet. Good luck.

GREAT advice man thanks so much....second question.... i d/c'd the negative while doing this ...is that the way to reset ecm? or is there another step to this.... it still runs rough but not as bad and it keeps running...is there an amount of time needed for the computer to relearn or do i have another problem to chase?

When was the last time you changed the spark plugs and wires?

Unplug your upstream o2 sensor (the one on the header right above the front axle) and zip tie the wires up. It will prolly run great. And youll throw a code but uf it runs great then you need an o2 60bucks mine was doing the same thing a week ago i pulled the wires and she runs like normal now

600-700 rpm at idle is normal.
