Default Cold start engine...rpm's at 1 k?

I have had my 93 ZJ 4.0 (129,000 KLM) for 3 weeks and when I start the engine the rpms are at 1 k?
Why does it not rev higher to say 2k to warm up?
What should I look for to correct the problem?

Ok...got no responses....is this normal for a 4.0 ZJ?

I had a Mazda (929) and it would set idle at 2200 rpm on cold start...but the ZJ just fires up at 1K... and stays there...???

My 93 starts up revs to around 1200 then idles down to around 800. That all happens in about 30 sec or less.

Check your idle air control

If it failed you would be getting a MIL. The plunger on it might have crud built up on it. The IAC is located on the throttle body. On my 02 if you are looking at the tb it would be on the rear facing side of the TB closest to the engine.
