Default 2002 cherokee 4.7 HO slight missfire

hi there, just wondering if there is anyone out who may be able to shed some light on a problem Im having, basically when I first start the Cherokee, she starts fine and idles around 1000rpm for about 20 sec then drop to around 650rpm for about 4/5 minutes and then the engine runs very uneven/lumpy for about 4/5 minutes then clears and seems to idle fine.

Sometimes if i turn it off and start it back up sometime it takes a few turns of the key to start but that is far and few between and only if the engine has be run, I do have a engine light on which is the o2 sensor bank2 sensor 1, just trying to source a cheap one in the Uk, best price I have so far is just over £100 + vat, just wondered if anyone could suggest a make and where would be a good place to source one from. cheers Jase

Was this recently put in? Even if you have had it a while and it is still acting weird you might want to consider this.

Jeep ECM Reset.

1. Disconnect the battery by removing the positive battery cable. Remember, the positive battery cable.

2. Ground the positive cable to the negative cable for 30 seconds to erase the electric charge in the capacitors.

3. Reconnect the positive cable to the battery.

4. Turn the key to on but do not start.

5. Turn the headlights on.

6. Turn the headlights off.

7. Turn the key off.

Hi there, Ive only owned the Jeep for just under 4 weeks. I brought the Jeep with a couple of issues,, the rear Calipers needed a rebuild (done), it needed a new exhaust from the middle (done). It needed a new Oil Temp Sensor (done) and it needs a (Bank 2 Sensor 1) O2 sensor and a was thinking of changing the TPS, these 2 I have yet to do as I'm struggling to find these items in the UK at a realistic price.

The Jeep is Gas converted and was done so in 2010, I have not tried the gas system as yet as Im waiting until the 1st of May to Tax the jeep to make it road legal, so while i'm waiting I thought i'd get it running as smooth as possible and do all the little odd job's.

Its just the lumpy, hunting engine for about 4 mins is confusing me a little, but I will try that Battery live sequence that you've suggested.

Thanks Jase

Also after looking seems the TPS can have a play in idle surging. Possibly look into that as well.

hi there, ive replaced the O2 Sensor today and it does seem to be alot better the uneven and lumpy miss has gone, the only one I could get from my local motor factors was a Blueprint at the cost of £104. Even though its running a lot better there still does seem to be a very slight surge at times.

Now ive managed to drive the jeep for a couple of days, It doesn't like to start after its been drove for a few miles. She fires over really fast but doesn't crank. After the 3rd/4th try she does start.

Any thoughts on what it could possibly be, cheers Jase
