check engine light
My 2000 jeep cherokee is running fine,no problems then this am check engine light stayed on...I had driven maybe 40 miles then stopped for a bit when started back up the light stayed on..Anything i can check?

Mine did the same thing and here is what I did figuring it was just the gas cap and it had sat for about a week. I fired it up and ran it to the store, opened up the gas cap for a minute, closed it. Then I disconnected the battery for about a half hour. Hooked everything back up and the engine light never came back on so my problem was with the gas cap. The mechanic said if there was a problem(elsewhere) it would come on within 30 minutes to about a day. I drove it 700 miles round trip a few days later and it never came back on.
Can't hurt to try. Disconnecting the battery resets the computer but if there is a definite problem the light should come back on relatively soon. At least that is what I was told but I am no mechanic so take this FWIW.
If that doesn't work then you'll have to have it plugged in to find the fault code.
